After a fully successful career in the medical field, Tony decided to give a chance to his hobby, photography! Starting with landscapes and street photography he found his path to glamour! Read his story and know the steps! He is Antonio Girlando.
Can you tell me a little about you?
My name is Antonio Girlando, I’m 58 years old and I live in Catania in Sicily. I have a medicine degree and after more than 25 years in operations room I decided to dedicate most of my time in photography.
How and when did you get into your profession?
Photography has been always my hobby, since my first camera, an instant Polaroid. First I was a street and landscape photographer but one day, about 6 years ago, I was invited to a model sharing and I started to study portrait, glamour and nude photography.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography is the way to express my fantasies and my personal view of the world.
Could you describe your style in three words?
Sensuality, elegance and beauty.
Where do you get inspiration from?
When I was a little boy I spent a lot of my time reading Marvel Comics and drawing Marvel Characters, following comics artists like John Romita and John Buscema, then also erotic comics of Crepax and Milo Manara, so these are my inspirations but also classic painters like Caravaggio, Raffaello and Michelangelo. Among the photographers my main inspiration are David Hamilton from the past and Dan Hecho from nowadays .
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture ?
Most of the times I plain the pictures but sometimes I get inspiration by the place or something I find in the location.
Studio, on location or both?
Both, but I prefer location.
What has been your most memorable session and why?All my sessions with the beautiful model Ilvy Kokomo, she’s sensational.
Nikon, Canon or something else? Favorite lens?
I use only Fuji because I like the Fuji colors, the vintage look of the camera and the old style position of the dials like my first analog camera, the Yashica fx-3 super 2000, that I still use, my favorite lens is Fuji XF90 F2.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Study from the great photographers and try to create a personal style.
